S'up

196.

Guild Wars 2 is so awesome that I actually cancelled my Mists WoW pre-order. Can you believe that?

Daily bike ride is now up to 6 miles.

I am hungry.

All good.

Bit of an update

204 pounds now. Blood work is now basically NORMAL, no drugs just healthy eating and exercise. Biking is up to 5.1 miles on hills every day. Still looking for a soy burger that doesn't taste like vegetable mush. Homemade catsup is really good.

Now for the important stuff. GW2 in 2 weeks! AND I have 2 work shows that weekend that will completely mess up my early play time. Sucks to be me.

Vacation soon...totally looking forward to a fantastic meal at the brother's restaurant.

And then the kid starts High School. Oh joy.

Closing in

on 205. That will be 55 pounds lost. Oh and I can hike again without feeling like a heart attack is coming on. Good stuff!

Civilization 5 rocks. Alice Madness is visually fun, yet lots of samey. Still going though. Metro 2033- gotta love Russian fps/rpg's. They make the best atmosphere.

GW2 can't come fast enough. Glad WoW is a month later...my head would have assploded!

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

Bah

I'm still around. Got hugely caught up in the Steam summer sale. I finally figured out how to get Civ V to save on Steam Cloud...reading definitely helps!

207 so yay me. Still trying to be "1 something" by the time we go to Dad's in mid-August. It is doable, probably.

Minecraft continues to consume. The kid is now smitten with Quake 3. Who woulda thunk?

New Minecraft shots

4 more shots from my new castle and the massive quarry I am digging out.

This is the second floor looking down on to the main floor.

This is the view from the ground floor looking all the way up to the roof.

Outside view...heh now I see where that Zombie came from!

This last one is looking down into the massive quarry I am digging out. I have found several old mines, lots of underground water and lava...massive areas to explore.

DAMN

Still stuck at 210...that is like 10 days now. Purge? heh Ok no purging, but maybe more bike riding.

Minecraft is so much fun...so is Tribes. One more beta test for GW2 and then 7 weeks until release. I will get some MC pics up later...part 1 of my walkway is complete- still needs to add the rail system but it is a start. My castle has a roof-yay for not getting rained on when sleeping. Major excavation of the mountain continues. 2 hidden mines have been found. Need LOTS of torches!

Tribes Ascend

ARGH!! Can't stop playing. Lovin' my Technician. Aerial Assaults fTw!

Thursday, June 28, 2012

Wave to Peter!

and now some Minecraft screenshots. Man I LOVE this game! So simple yet so compelling.

Ok top one is my current mini-farm soon to be replace by big old farm. Next one down is my new front entrance. Did that this morning over coffee instead of reading the news. Third one is the beginning of my new massively enclosed new farm and my beach front access. It will be a lot of glass bricks to bring in light for the crops and a really nice walk to what will be my boat dock. The last one just shows the current progress I have made. You can see my old front door in the distance.

I think it will look pretty cool when it is all covered, with a farm and lots of torches and such. Silly game.

Closing in....

on 210. Heh, 50 pounds. That is like removing a small human from me. Weird.

How do I do it.

Cue Steve Martin's Wild and Crazy Guy voice..."So people always ask me, Mike, how are you managing to get so thin and sexy after being a 'bit thick' all these years? And I say, well, funny you should ask, so I will tell you"

I was asked what is it exactly that I eat now because frankly it does seem to work. Just about 45 pounds lost since February 15th. I have many more to go but it is happening. So here is(are) my secret(s).

First up is what I don't eat, or eat very little of. Processed foods- none. Out of a can or box or package- NOPE -with a few exceptions that will be listed. No meat, no breads or starches, no white rice, no butter, no beer, no sugar, no pie, cake or candy, no carbs, no sodium/salt. Heh, no nothing.

This is what I eat.

Fresh vegetables. I am a big fan of bell peppers, mushrooms, onions, squash, carrots, sugar peas and such. Basically anything in your produce department is perfect.

Fruit. Well I do need to keep my sugars down a bit so I have to go easy on the grapes or the bananas, as they are high in sugars but any fruit is good.

Non-fat greek yogurt. This will save your life. Do you like sour cream? Me too. Substitute non-fat greek yogurt and I guarantee you will not be able to tell the difference. Use it to make a creamy dressing for your salad. Add a bit of mustard or some good vinegar and mix well.

Note on spices. Use them, love them, caress them and make them your friend. Might I suggest Penzy's as the most awesome spice store ever. YMMV but if you have one near by, it is worth a look.

Meat. nope just skip it- I have had meat 3 times in 4 months. I miss it horribly and cannot wait for the next special occasion when I do have it.

Chicken- boneless and skinless. That doesn't mean cooking it with the skin on and then taking it off. Buy it naked.

Fish. Learn to love it. I do not. Right now I am eating Tuna, cooked or raw and Halibut. I gotta find more but it is definitely a work in progress.

Get a butter substitute. Country Crock is pretty ok and it tastes really good. It does help with say sautéing mushrooms.

Need soy sauce (one of the worst things you can put in your body)? Go here: BraggThese guys make their Amino Acids that is a great substitute for soy, and they also make a whole array of sauces, dressings etc that are pretty darn good and good, well better, for you.

And that is basically it. Sadly. So now after all that, what DO I eat. Ok I do cheat a little at breakfast with some Kashi cereal often with a banana. I have finally begun to like carrots as a snack. Drink water. Oh and Coke Zero is pretty good but LIMITE it- that junk is not good for you.

My chicken salad- grill the chicken, cut it up, toss in apples, celery, walnuts and make a dressing with yogurt, hot mustard, lots of paprika, curry if you like and tons of spices and mix it up. Enjoy.

Other things I have found. Soy hot dogs are really not bad. Soy chorizo is really really good- dump some in some egg beaters with some mushrooms and onions and cook it all up. Add a bit of sour cream, er non-fat Greek yogurt to the side, and you will feel like you are cheating.

Dreamhouse Pasta. 5 grams of digestible carbs. YAY I can eat pasta again.
This soy meatless hamburger stuff they sell at Costco- mix with some soy chorizo, sauté some onions and add a bunch of taco seasoning (see spices ARE your friend) and you have a healthy taco mix. They sell some great low fat corn tortillas at Trader Joes, and again toss in some tomatoes, onions and some cheating sour cream (yogurt) and bingo, 2 of those, you are full, you have minimal carbs and they are 100 times more healthy than hamburger meat, and you can trust me when I say, you cannot tell that you are not eating meat.

Last tip- spaghetti sauce. Onions, mushrooms, (anything else you like) and sauté in some of that country crock and a tad of veggie heart oil, toss in a bunch of fresh tomatoes.

(note on tomatoes - GET GOOD ONES. Not the stinky just turned red junk they sell at Safeway...go to a good store and pay a bit more- you deserve it and you will be much happier- plus your food bills will go WAY down eating like this so be sure to get the best fruits and veggies you can)

Then add a jar of Trader Joes brand Pomodoro spaghetti sauce. 40 calories, low carb, very low sodium (yeah it is a bit of cheating but hey) Toss that in, with a bag of the soy meat and let it simmer for an hour. Use that on top of the Dreamhouse Pasta and you have a low carb, low salt, non-meat good for you meal that will fill you up and make you happy.

So there you go. This is what I eat. I have lost 45 pounds in 4 months. I have 30 to go and I will do it. I have started my exercising- about 3 miles most days on the hills on my bike. It is absolutely necessary to exercise.

Is it hard? Yes, it is the hardest thing I have ever done. Is it hard? Haaa no, not at all. Just make up your mind like I did and it is easy. Just say no. If you do go out, have a salad, drink water, no dessert, eat fruit and don't be annoying to other people about their food. Unless they ask, then give them the lecture. :)

And last but not least, feel free to cheat. Make Saturday night your cheat night. Eat a steak, have a baked potato, eat some dessert, but JUST DON'T EAT ALL OF THAT-PICK ONE. If you gorge, well, just don't.

Seriously once you see your weight on the scale going down every single week, it gets easier because you will see the change.

Which brings up my last 2 things. Get a good scale and weigh yourself EVERY day. Yes, EVERY day. Secondly, use your phone. Grab MyFitnessPal and use it to see how many calories you take in every day. I also have WeightRecord. I input my weight every Friday and look at the graph and see my progress.

I just tried on a shirt I bought on my honeymoon 14 years ago. It fit. It hasn't fit in 10 years but I kept it. THAT is why I am sticking to this.

Ok now that you have stopped reading about 10 paragraphs ago, I shall stop typing.

Monday, June 4, 2012

I broke it

217. Looks like 2 1/2 miles on the bike 5 days a week (just started) had started to work. Yay. It is all downhill from here.

Guild Wars 2 beta code...got it!

Kings Game 3 tonite...watching!

Saturday, June 2, 2012

I think I broke the 220 barrier

More on this later.

Plus...HOLY SHIT THE KINGS ARE NOW 2 GAMES FROM WINNING THE FRIGGING STANLEY CUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thursday, May 31, 2012

So

I am kinda stuck at 220 right now. About 10 days and it worries me a bit. The past few days I have drastically decreased my caloric intake and I am hoping to be south of that number tomorrow.

I stared riding my bike again...lol I am weak, and I mean weak. I get 15 minutes of hills and I am beat. I am hoping that by the end of the summer to be able to do 45 minutes of so of hills at a good clip. That said, German Chocolate cake with French Vanilla ice cream sounds really good.

Salad with snap peas is what I get...yeah baby.

ON the other fronts- HELL YES GO KINGS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I seriously think we are gonna win the Stanley Cup. I know we can anyway.

Playing my Druid in WoW. Good fun there. To appease Marcin, I do have Guild Wars 2 AND Torchlight 2 pre-ordered. Looking forward to both, whenever they come out.

Stay tuned for more exciting news.

Wednesday, May 16, 2012

Miss me?

Probably not.

Ok working on hitting 220...that will be a 40+ pound drop since starting this stupid new life changing diet of mine. Yay carrots!

Colonscopy...no pics but I have them. Plus sitting in a recovery room with 10 farting old people...priceless and noisy.

So yeah just waiting on Guild Wars. Slogging through WoW but sadly as of late, the servers are pretty dead. Diablo 3 has killed population for the foreseeable future. Not sure what everyone sees in massive amounts of clicking a mouse. But hey...

Wednesday, May 9, 2012

Ha!

So life is funny. I am driving to work, blasting The Go-Gos, obviously in mid-life crisis mode, thinking about my colonscopy on Friday and wondering where time has gone. I have basically become a vegetarian, I am about to hit 35 pounds lost and I am feeling better than I have in years...haaa so I cranked the volume up to 11 and went on my merry way.

Plus, the Kings are 4 wins away from the Stanley Cup finals...go Kings go!

Monday, May 7, 2012

hah

I am in the 220's for the first time in 10 years. Technically, 228 but hey. And my new smaller pants are now getting lose too. I don't think I am quite ready to go down another size but soon.

http://www.weighthacker.com/

Good site, soon to be good book...I already put my order in for the hardback. And yeah, I tried ALMOND CHEESE this weekend. Better than fat free but still not sure about the whole non-dairy cheese thing. Might be better just to skip it completely. I dunno. More testing is required.

Bah, I wish they would hurry up and announce a release date for Guild Wars 2.

Monday, April 30, 2012

Back

Ok done with Laughlin for a year. Traveling for a week is tough-not so much breakfast and lunch, but dinner. Hard to find good to eat things at casinos. blah.

Anyway I did NOT gain, and I think I did go down a pound for a week so it is all good.

I did the nutrition class...got a couple of new ideas- will do some shopping this weekend.

On the game front, WoW is back..whee, just completed a 40 freshwater fish achievement AND got my Nanny achievement for 3 of the pets for Children's Week. Now to get back into the raids and dungeons. I just have to remember what buttons to push. Still not date on Guild Wars BUT all signs from the beta point to teh awesome! Plus SR the Third...and the wife is gone this weekend...woot woot- gaming with morning coffee!

The kid. She hit 21 in Aion AND got her studio apartment. AND new wings. She loves the grind. Heh.

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

The question

Will I hit 30 pounds lost by Friday? Will I get that beer? Hopefully and hopefully.

Monday, April 16, 2012

One down

ME 3 is done. My comment- the ending annoyed me. Was hit horrible? Kind of but that was due to just a mish mash of bad ideas going into it...and in the end, the end was, well, kind of nonsensical.

Oh well, time for some Saints Row The third, dress up like a clown grab a submachine gun and a giant purple sex toy and kill old people...and stuff. Probably not gonna be disappointed about the ending there.

My first 60 WoW time card has been ordered.

And finally, my daughter is now hooked on the Korean grindfest known as Aion...which oddly I found to be more fun than SWTOR...plus you get wings, lots of pets and houses.

On track for those 30 pounds lost by the end of the week :)

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

Part 1 done

ME 3 final assault has begun.

On the food front, I expect to hit 30 pounds lost within 2 weeks. Yay me.

Monday, April 9, 2012

It is done

SWTOR is cancelled. Scroll of Resurrection is ready to go--ty Ewa!

Still not sure what day I am starting the final run for ME 3. I WILL be ready though.

The final countdown

Need to run a couple of multi-player matches, and I will be good to go. My readiness should be at 100% and it will be time to take out the Reapers. It is the final set of missions so everything has to be ready an wrapped up before heading in. I am ready.

AND officially hit 25 pounds off. This morning I am on the south side of that 5 pound hash mark...4 more and it will be 30 pounds officially lost. I say, blow me fat, I am coming for you.

And on a final note, halibut. Damn, it is really good. Never had it other than in sushi...now I have 2 types of fish I can eat.

Friday, April 6, 2012

Dropping like flies

2 pounds a week. This is taking a while but I guess that is because I was a big fat shit! *sigh*

Ah life. That's cool, looks like I get to play some serious ME 3 today and tomorrow. I am ready to kick some Reaper butt. Femshep few!

Thursday, April 5, 2012

Close

I am hoping to finish ME3 this weekend. It could happen.

On another note, yeah the old dude colonoscopy is scheduled. Heh, pics to be posted...:)

Did a bit of Tribes Ascend last nite. As Marcin noted, it is very fast. Faster than Tribes 1 or are we just older and slower? Jury is still out but I did manage to grab a good bit of xp and some nice kills and assists. I need to unlock the engineer- gotta be able to drop turrets and repair stuff.

Tuesday, April 3, 2012

38 hours in

and I am getting close to the universe saving finale of ME 3. I might be able to wrap it up this weekend. It continues to be fantastic. AND there is a patch I think today...is there a new ending in store for us?

Oh, just about 25 pounds lost so far. Seems like people notice my face and not my tummy. Still rocking the diet and good eating habits though. And the best part, now that we are all finally using our health insurance, the premiums are going up. Yay. Suck it healthcare companies.

Monday, March 26, 2012

He's dead Jim

Well THEY really. I chose wrongly...can killed an entire race. Not just a few, or even a lot but EVERYONE of them, the entire race. Yeah I restarted. Man, that was a pretty bad wrong decision. ME 3...yes you too can kill of an entire race just by picking the wrong text tree. Go me!

Friday, March 23, 2012

One down

Milestone that is. I have officially lost over 20 pounds since February 15th. I have many more pounds to go and my more milestones but I am definitely going in the right direction. I am now back to where I was 5 years ago. Once I add the exercise to the mix, things should move along quite well.

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

Soon

Looks like a big weight loss milestone is gonna hit on Friday. I suppose it will depend on how much butternut squash I eat tonite, but maybe. No processed foods in 6 weeks. No headaches. Pretty cool. Anyway, I am hoping for Friday. Feels good to be healthy or at least working on getting healthy.

I shall celebrate by playing many hours of Mass Effect. :)

Monday, March 19, 2012

Hey, it's Monday again!

And I still want to go home and play me some Mass Effect. 26 hours in and they are still throwing curves at me. Uh, what do you mean I can't dock at the Citadel?? Heh, didn't see that coming.

The short take so far is...while it may be true that the story is not quite as *compelling* as ME 1, it is certainly leading me to that massive battle for the salvation of the Universe from the Reapers, so yeah that works for me just fine.

I like the combat-I stick to a standard trooper and let my able companions use all those fancy powers. Works just fine- yeah I still die- it is hard but once you figure out tactics, it generally goes well. Just takes a couple of tries to get it right.

It's great running into old friends. The decisions you make really do change the game. And, ugh, another good friend died...it's sad really. I am sure I will lose more along the way- one was lost because I had no idea what the "right" choice was- I didn't tell her to do something, having no idea I should, although maybe if I thought it through, I would have chosen wisely. Anyway she ended up basically being assassinated. *sigh*

Monday, March 12, 2012

It's Monday at work and...

I want to go home and play hours of Mass Effect 3!! I have about 15 to 20 hours in so far and I still don't have my crew set yet. WTF 28 hours and people are finishing?? Seems like a huge waste to play that way. I have to feed my fish. My hamster needs attention and I need to figure out how to get Miranda on my ship. She is....well, I NEED her on my ship.

Friday, March 9, 2012

woot!

So the wife says, Emily and I are going out tonite. Gonna look for dresses and go out to dinner. Naturally this would normally make me sad- the dinner part anyway. Looks like I am stuck with fruit and boneless skinless chicken again. BUT, instead, I said..WOOHOOO HONEY YOU GUYS STAY OUT AS LONG AS YOU WANT, GO TO PARIS FOR THE WEEKEND, GET A HOTEL, WHATEVER ...LIVE IT UP AND ENJOY SPENDING TIME WITH YOUR DAUGHTER.

Of course, this means Mass Effect 3 will not be on headphones tonight, it will be 5 channel surround with HUGE BASE...oh the joy almost makes up for the fact that Taco Bell is finally releasing the Dorrito taco shell today.

Thursday, March 8, 2012

Restart

Ok so the character generator is nice but unfortunately it has some issues- IE the character you make does not exactly resemble the character in game. It was really bothering me that my Shep had very cute but very buggy eyes. Anyway, fixed her up, and she is back to total hotness Femshep again. And it is kinda fun to torment Liara- she was Sheps love interest in ME1 and now Shep is kinda taunting her- do I still? Don't I? Oh I am gonna let that hang over us for a while. Unless Liara starts crying...then I will totally give in. Heh.

CT scan...fine other than old people shit on my stuff. Nothing major. Doc said they will do another scan in a year. Nice.

Grabbing Game of Thrones at lunch. Got the birthday gift card, and it is on sale at evil BB...so excited to finally see it.

And that is the state of things.

/goes off to ponder how to make Liara cry

Wednesday, March 7, 2012

2 Hours In

The Reapers came. End of days upon us. A child cries. Ah, it is good to be back on the Normandy.

Monday, March 5, 2012

Oops

So two ME3's are coming tomorrow. A CE and a regular-Amazon just got CE's in and it was too late to cancel my first order. But now, let me just say "WOOHOO for ME3 CE!!"

And I got SR The Third for my birthday along with 6 bobble heads from Oregon and the Tie Fighter lego from the kid. Oh and not to be forgotten, MERLIN (that horribly wonderful TV show) action figures!! LOL I now have a Gaius action figure.

CT scan of the kidney tomorrow. Doesn't really matter though because, well, I now have TOO MANY GAMES TO PLAY!!

Friday, March 2, 2012

Blah blah

BP normal, cysts on kidney, blah blaH.

MASS EFFECT 3 LAUNCH TRAILER IS OUT AND THE GAME WILL BE ON MY DOORSTEP ON TUESDAY! Hmm I do have a CT scan that morning- I could pretend it was horrible and it will take all day. heh.

Wednesday, February 29, 2012

pfft

CT scan coming up for my kidney...I am getting tired of my doctor. I will tell her so when I see her on Friday. Frankly if the next time she calls me and doesn't say, "Hey mike, go have a couple of english ales on me", I am not gonna take her call.

Well technically I have to if I want to hear what she says...*sigh*

Monday, February 27, 2012

not much

2 more pounds gone.

I make a good Chicken Curry Salad...really.

Liver ultrasound tomorrow morning.

I still won't eat carrots as a snack. Oh and green tea Mio is great in bubble water made with my Soda Stream.

And now what is truly important...Mass Effect 3 will be on my doorstep next Tuesday. Take THAT dietetic no carb no meat no beer food diet shit! Femshep is back and ready to kick butt.

Friday, February 24, 2012

Better

6 pounds dropped
BP is now 145/98- about half of what it was last week hahaa....It seems I need to be at 120/80 but I will call this a win. Got my Fish Oil pills for my cholesterol for now. Liver ultrasound next Tuesday, BP check back with the Doc on Friday and I can have 35 grams of carbs PER MEAL!!! Per meal???!!! Holy shit that is like triple of what I have been doing.

I told the kid by summer I am gonna be driving around in the Jeep without my shirt on. She said I was gross.

SWTOR- AH'd a ton of my old mats that I no longer need for crafting. Hoping to have a good influx of cash when I log on tointe...I am around 100K credits short of what I need to train for my new speeder and buy it as well. It would be sweet if I can grab it this weekend.

Secret World. June. Yup, I am in. Too many good things being said about it.

Oh look, snack time...green tea and a pear. fml. Carry on.

Thursday, February 23, 2012

really

So I have to say that I am truly excited about my doctor visit tomorrow. I want to see if 10 days of DIET FROM HELL AND LAND OF NO BEER has made any noticeable changes.

Plus, Mass Effect 3 is really falling from the skies. Nothing close to me yet but there is still hope!

Tuesday, February 21, 2012

Cool

My weight has gone down every day since I started eating this evil diet. Corn on the cob with fake butter. Yeah that is some livin'. Oh and wtf, every commercial on TV is for food- marrybacon.com- you can blow me. It looks like a really good burger though. Burger and a nice English ale fermented in an oak cask-food given to humans by the gods of goodness and taken away by the doctor of evil. fml

Just short of 39 on my Smuggler. Sitting on 140K credits. At 40 I need 240K credits to train for my new speeder. This is gonna be a tough one.

Oh look, almost time for my plum snack- yeah this is what I have come to.

Monday, February 20, 2012

Bit of a change

I need a place to enter my lifestyle changes so I can kinda track my progress and talk about games and such so now I have more to say.

Nutshell at this point- started weight at 270 but that was with clothes and after lunch on the Doc's scale. Today in the morning, I was 253.7. I am thinking that my initial weight in the morning was probably closer to 263ish and I think our scale is a bit low so lets be not kind and say 5 pounds down...in 5 frigging days. Yeah you get that if you cut out beer, bread, cheese, meat, carbs, cholesterol, and only eat boneless skinless chicken, turkey, fruit, grilled veggies and smoothies with a bit of organic non-fat yogurt and fruit. Oh don't forget the soy milk, the drink of the WEAK!! Yeah this is a lot of BS- but, when your blood pressure is so high the doctor is convinced you are having a heart attack, and you are trying to tell here that you feel fine...well.

So, currently on BP medicine and then this friday I go in to check it- I know it will continue but then I will probably start my cholesterol medicine. I will probably take something for diabetes too but the think is, if I drop say 50 pounds (shit that is a lot) or more, I have a feeling and so does the doc, that many of my issues will either go away or lessen tremendously. Hopefully the ultrasound of my liver goes well---LOL I feel like and old man. All I can say is after this I BETTER get into Comic-Con this year.

Ok there, that part is out of the way.

Mass Effect demo. WTF is wrong with me. I fired up the multi-player. Got in a game. Died in the forest 3 seconds and the match was over. I turned it off. Went back to my computer, fired up SWTOR and after playing my Jedi a bit, I returned to my Smuggler with renewed anticipation of hitting 50. Sadly though, I am sitting at 39.7 and I and still 100K short of my level 40 speeder training and then obviously 25k short of getting the speeder after I am trained to ride it. *sigh* What I need to do is stop dying while questing-the repair bills are killing me- heh.

Friday, February 17, 2012

So great week

The good news is that my "exercise" this weekend will consist of Mass Effect 3 multi-player demo. I am not going to look at the single player game- I don't want spoilers, I want the game. And I hope that Amazon does get some CE's in before it ships.

The bad- man, blood pressure medicine, cholesterol medication, diabetes diet, no cholesterol diet, no fat diet, no beer, no rum, no meat, no milk or cheese...shit. So far it has been 2 days of grilled skinless chicken (there are marinades and spices that will make this very good btw), grilled veggies and brown rice. I have some sort of cherrios cereal, egg beaters and soy milk for breakfast now. The goal is lower all the bad shit and lose a pound a week.

Let's see how this all goes.

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

So

the big physical today

Yeah, not totally looking forward to this.

I have a feeling I will have some copay's coming up at the pharmacy. *sigh* Good thing beer is the panacea for everything or I think I would be screwed.

Thursday, February 9, 2012

gamin

Mass Effect 3 is officially preordered. Leveling is still going very slowly - yeah that's cool but man everyone is hitting 50 but me. Plus I keep thinking that I want to play my Jedi and not my Smuggler- eh...so much to do. Plus the b'day is coming- SR The Third is featured prominently on a list somewhere although if there IS a picture of a certain device on the front, I don't really see my mother-in- law grabbing that for me...heh.

Skyrim...need some Skyrim

Monday, February 6, 2012

repairs need to be done

Looks like my blog rss feeds are not doing much.

SWTOR-still going but ME3 is getting closer.

Oh and wow, what a hugely lame group of Superbowl commercials. Save a few. At least our food was good.

Tuesday, January 31, 2012

Just waiting

for Marcin to tell me his toon names so we can have our MMO date.

Time's awastin'

Wednesday, January 25, 2012

My awesome Normandy sweatshirt (19.99 on clearance) has shipped!! (get it, shipped?)

Monday, January 23, 2012

I do

...still dig the iPhone.

SWTOR...still going. There are I think 5 level 50's in the guild so far. I am level 30 and level 16. It is now time for my concerted effort to hit 50. But really I need to get some ship upgrades- the latest space mission take I think 14 missiles and I carry 16. I need MOAR missiles!. I need to work in some PvP and I haven't even finished Chapter 1 of my storyline.

One thing that came up that I thought was fun...as I was leaving Tatooine, there was a sneaky looking character skulking about in the hanger. A quest giver. He wanted to know if wanted to hang out on Tatooine a bit longer and help some folks out. Since I like to finish things and since I really did need to level up one more time before moving on, I agreed. The entire set of quests were about helping out farmers from pirates to recovering stolen water. Once I finished, and headed to my ship, he was, naturally there, to thank me for not leaving the people in a lurch. Turns out he is some kind of undercover Jedi, that claims to have been watching me and was very happy with my "progress" and claims to see big things for me.

It is a little thing but THAT makes the story in SWTOR so fun to discover-you really don't know what will happen next.

iPhone

I hate to say it kid, but I really do love my iPhone. Got all my apps so far (had to pay for turn by turn navigation but hey, I got a gift card for Christmas) The screen is very slick, the speed is nice, and the batter life is 10 times what I had on my Droid Incredible.

Myth Busters

Awesome show, AND Wil Wheaton was there.

AND...it seems that I need to work on my healer a bit as well. As for Em, fortunnately I was able to rescue the Skyrim saves folder for her so the system reinstall was not so painful. She is back to killing everyone in the game and is happy.

Oh, one last thing...if this is the title of a movie script you are given as an actor, and this is the story they tell you the movie is about, what would prompt you to say, yeah sure I'll do it?

Easter Bunny, Kill! Kill!
2006NR90 minutes
A single mother leaves her special-needs son in the care of her boyfriend and his friend, who cruelly abuse the little boy. But a killer dressed as the Easter Bunny sets out to avenge their demented crimes.

Pfft

Gonna go look at stuff at the Verizon store tomorrow.

SWTOR continues to be fun...still I am not sure why I am only level 26 and I started playing the same time everyone else did.

We are going to see the Myth Busters live show on Sunday-kinda random but hopefully fun.

Marcin, update your blog.

Hmm, now I am kinda excited about possibly taking the train to and from Oregon this summer. Train travel, especially overnight, is great fun.

iPhone

Contract is up...I fear it is time to make the iPhone plunge. Wife is nagging me for one. I am but a clone. *sigh*

And while I am waiting on Comic Con...tonite I install my wireless repeater and see if I can get some semblance of a signal to the back of my huge house (30 feet from the router, if that). #lamewallsftl

Comic Con

So I did the yearly look at the Comic Con web page to see what I am gonna miss again, when BEHOLD...they have some new fangled system where you get an ID and that, somehow, is going to make it easier for people to register and harder for scalpers to get tickets since you only get 1 ticket per ID....so the kid and I now have our ID's. Could this be the year we finally get to go?

Haaa, I doubt it but I am gonna try.

haaa

Check out this rambling blurp about the Kindle Fire I just came up with:

I have a Nook (imho it is a far superior piece of hardware than the Kindle touch- Wife has the kindle and frankly the Nook is much spiffier) for reading and a Fire for everything else.

I have now had my Fire for 2 weeks.

Movies- love it- perfect size for lap sitting. I travel a lot. All the hotels have wifi so between Prime and Netflix, I am covered. The size and weight are perfect for laying in bed or sitting at the desk eating takeout and watching.

Apps and such. I use it every boring. I ready the NYtimes, USA today, AP feed and a few others. Don't need a news paper delivered when I get it all for free. That said, the Apps are VERY limited. It is the Amazon app store, not the Android app store. I hope that changes soon. I have some apps on my phone that I would love on my Kindle but alas they are not offered yet. That is my big downside right now to the Fire...While there may not be many apps out there I want, I *feel* like there are so that is an issue for me.

Email- I have both my verizon pop acct and my gmail- they both work great.

Websurfing- works just fine- frankly I never open my laptop any more at home- no reason when that little 7 inches is sitting on the coffee table next to my beer.

Reading- I am a huge proponent of e-reader/e-ink. I love it. I think everyone in the world should have an e-reader. I will always travel with BOTH the fire and the kindle/nook. Not a big deal-they are both small and light but for full time reading, e-ink is great. Plus, if you go sit by the pool- that LED screen just won't cut it. Plus it is lighter and thusly easier to hold. I do have the comics app on the fire -ComicsX I believe- anyway that works just fine. You may have to expand an bit on some of the small text but no biggie. I just got my first magazine sub on it- PC Gamer- I was NOT going to spend 9 bucks to get the SWTOR issue when the sub is 2 dollars a month and I can cancel for no charge in 2 weeks. Verdict? I like it- it is not perfect- there is some size issue again- you would not have that on the iPad but, for a 200 dollar tablet that is this slick- I could not be happier.

Bottom line, for the price, this thing is fantastic. I do need to couple it with an e-reader but I knew that going it- it was never meant to replace an e-reader and it doesn't but...now I get all those spiffy .99 book deals from Amazon, I can watch some silly old movies that I never got around to watching, and really there is not much of a downside- all for 200 dollars.

Oh a note on that 29.00 mar ware case- get it. Works like a charm. Compact, sturdy, and the stand works great for movies and it doesn't make the Fire BIG.

I know I am a bit late and rambling but frankly I think there is too much "it's not an iPad" and other negative talk about the Fire. My kid has an iPad and there is no way you can read for a long period of time- it is too heavy. That said, a bigger screen is nice for magazines, movies and such but it is also 300 dollars more. If I had an iPad 2 I would not have a Fire for sure- but since I don't...I got the Fire. Would I trade it for an iPad 2? Maybe but only if you give me the 300.00....Cause I just don't see it being that much better. But again, different device, different crowd, different market.

LOTRO

We are done...We have introduced the kid to basically 12 hours of Legolas. Seriously, if I hear "OHHHHHHHH he is sOOOOOOO cute" one more time!! ;)

Now we sit and wait for The Hobbit.

Wookie

I now have a Wookie. As a smuggler, this is an absolute must. Screenshot coming- it was really late when I finished this last nite and I was too tired to get a shot.

Ok back. I want to do more here or maybe not. At least more screens from SWTOR...which I missed while out of town. (they need a mac app)

My Kindle Fire is the bees knees for sure. I finally watched Titan AE.

California drivers are indeed the absolute worst in the country. I live here. I just drove 500 miles up and back on the 5 freeway. 2 lanes in either direction. It's not hard. Drive in the right lane. Pass on the left, then move back in the right lane. It really isn't that hard at all. Oh wait, yes it is.
